Toughened Glass
Shyam Glass Tempered Safety Glass
Gold Plus toughened glass is made to become tampered safety glass to be applied in architectural designs. The toughened quality is supposed to add great strength and protection as to hold a building and its external surface. After taking out of the annealed lehr, the glass is heated again to 660 degree celcius to make it soft. Afterward, the outer surfaces are cooled down in quick manner but the inner part gets cooled slowly. Thus, the glass gets toughened on the outer surface due to high compassion and the inner core holds high tension which results to a toughened tempered with great strength. Due to this property, the glass becomes five times stronger and durable than annealed glass. Its safety features and uniformity in load strength makes it undamaged even in thermal or mechanical pressure. In case the toughened glass breaks, its safety feature allows it to become dust of fragments and granules. This means minimal injury. Gold Plus has availed a wide window of thickness starting from 3mm to 19 mm. the maximum size available is of 2440 x 5500mm and the minimum size is 30 x 60mm.
BENEFITS
Impact Resistance
A surface compression of over 10,000 PSI(69MPa) impacts about five times the impact and mechanical strength of annealed glass of the same thickness.
Thermal Cracking Resistance
Tempered Safety Glass will resist temperatures of up to approximately 295C. In a range from – 20 C to 300C.
Safety
When broken, tempered glass become small granules, which will not exert substantial hurt to human body.
Optical Clarity
Tempered safety glass may contain some minor visual imperfection introduced through heating.
LIMITATIONS
- Wrapping distortions are usually present in the glass sheets. It is spontaneous in breaking which is why any impact that is not resisted by the glass will immediately lead to the glass being shattered in dust. Due to this feature, there exists a chance of the particles being blown in wind. Therefore, it is advisable to have a strengthened glass support.
- Furthermore, once the glass is tempered, it cannot be drilled or cut or even modified by any of the methods used in the production plants.
- Another drawback is the chance of strain pattern showing up in case of intense lightning. The patterns are quite visible but it cannot be deemed as a defect as this is merely a trait of tempered glasses.
